Man, I've been bad about updating this blog. Sorry about that, to the 2 people that read this (thanks Wifey and Mom!)
I've had some recent travel for work that I wasn't counting on and work itself has been a little insane, so in free time I do have, I forget to update this. I'll try to be better.
So, to get back in the groove - some random thoughts:
1) Is it really our top priority to worry about Michelle Obama wearing shorts? It's August, they were on vacation at the Grand Canyon. How many of YOU wouldn't be wearing shorts? The recession, health care reform, etc etc, might be just a little more important, you think?
2) Urbandale makes the Little League World Series - nice job! Way to represent Iowa - good luck! And, will be shown on ESPN.
3) Parkersburg home opener for football also to be shown on ESPN next week. That's cool too. Talk about a town full of resiliency.
4) Just how many people are going to claim they MIGHT be the father of Michael Jackson's kids? Sickening.
5) School starts. In our house, that means wife back to work, oldest is a senior, youngest is a 4th Grader. Our house dynamics change a LOT when school is back in session. I think even the dogs are wondering where the heck everyone is!
6) How much do you tolerate from a cleaning service before you fire them? Understanding their price is way better than others in town - how much influence should that have?
7) I love "Police Women of Broward County" - is that odd?
8) Can't wait for Season 2 of "Sons of Anarchy" and the new season of "Ultimate Fighter - Heavyweights"
9) Just finished a great book this week on the plane. It's called "Unleashing the Warrior Within". Everyone should read it. I'm going to buy it for my mgmt team.
10) Are you ready for some football? Friday Night Lights and College Football Saturdays. Can't wait!
11) I don't care what anyone says, I love the cool weather we've had this summer. Works fine for me. I don't need 100+ heat indexes. Plus - it signals the nearing of my favorite season - autumn.
12) We got a pool table, and the family is having a blast. It's really fun for all of us to hang around the pool table and just enjoy being a family.
13) Is it really almost Labor Day? Yikes.
Oh boy!

Almost a year to the day of posting it originally, I got a comment on this blog entry. Thanks Hanah, and in case you are wondering, it's comment #221 since I started this blog.
To be honest, I had forgotten about that entry. And to be even more honest, many of the same thoughts/feelings were back in my head and daily routine.
Interesting how Hanah was searching for Cotton Headed Ninny Muggins and stumbled on my blog entry and brought it back to the forefront. Nice.
Something a little different...

I don't typically get overly religious on this blog, but those of you that know me and read the blog regularly can tell (I hope!) that faith is very important to me, my wife, and our family. I have many things going on, continuing, starting, advancing on the side of my faith journey, I'm excited and I just have this feeling that I'm on the edge of something big. To be brutally honest, it's been a pretty uhm...interesting....year, personally and professionally. So, I'm excited to be re-focusing (I think it's a constant thing that needs to be done) on faith, God, and my family again.
I get a daily devotion e-mailed to me from a friend and I then pass it on to some other friends. I thought today was particularly good and just feel the need to share it here. I didn't write it, and it gets forwarded to me so I can't give appropriate credit, but know that I can't take credit, I'm merely passing it on....

Justified
In His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. (Romans 3:25–26)
“Justification” is an often-used word in the Christian vocabulary that carries great meaning. It is a word that declares the rightness of something—not symbolically or potentially, but actually.
The Bible says that when I come to Christ and ask Him to forgive my sin, recognizing that He died in my place and took the penalty that I should have taken, then I have been justified.
One way to think of the word, “justification,” is “just as if it never happened.” When I come to Christ and ask His forgiveness, He says, “You are justified.” That is, “just as if it never had happened.” It is incredible to think about.
Sometimes guilt from the past can plague you. The devil may whisper, “Do you remember what you did? Do you remember that sin you committed 23 years ago?”
But you can say, “I am justified—just as if it never happened.” Only God makes that possible. As Psalm 103 says, “He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor punished us according to our iniquities. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us (verses 10–12). That’s a long way!
Corrie ten Boom used to say. “God has taken our sin and thrown it into the sea of forgetfulness and posted a sign that says, ‘No fishing allowed.’ ” You are justified. Just as if it never had happened.
Treasure every day...

This really irks me, and we see it all the time:

Really? We're spending money/resources on THIS? For obvious reasons, I don't think it will prove the "Big Bang Theory" but I also hope it doesn't have catastrophic consequences if they can't control it:

Politics? Well, I won't even go there. This could turn into the silliest election time ever. Sometimes I think the rest of the world must just sit back and laugh at us.
My Vikings lost to Green Bay (sans Favre). Dang. Good thing the Cyclones, as apparent 2 touchdown underdogs even though the Hawks haven't played a real team yet, are going to beat the Hawkeyes on Saturday. 7 of the last 10 years, hopefully we make it 8 out of 11. That ought to stir some comments....HA!
Ever feel like Jack Butler?

Imagine, if you will, it's 1983. Husband, Jack Butler, loses his job. Wife, Caroline Butler, goes back to work to help the family out. Jack assumes the household duties. And things get crazy from there.... In case you don't know, that's the plot of the movie "Mr. Mom" from 1983, starring Michael Keaton and Terri Garr.
In one scene, Jack is taking the kids to school. Having never done it before, he gets some rude looks, comments and even a scolding from a crossing guard for not doing it the "right way"!
Fast forward to 2008. Chad, the husband, is working from home. Michelle, the wife, is running some other errands. Chad, having done this very few times, goes to pick up their youngest from elementary school. Well, you can guess the rest. Those moms in mini-vans can get testy! But, we survived, we made it home. My 8 yr old just laughs and says "Dad, this isn't how Mom does it!" Yikes.
I felt like saying, "Yeah, 220, 221, whatever it takes". If you don't understand that quote, watch the movie.
I'll stick to my day job....

I've been SPAM'd....not bad, but noticeable. It's been happening in the "comments" section of this blog and some of the SPAM comments that have been posted are somewhat questionable content. I sincerely apologize if any of you have seen these comments and have been offended. I've been removing the comments as quickly as I see them and Terapad (the host of the blog) has been doing a great job in trying to help too. Unfortunately, spammers are smart and they find ways around the safeguards that reputable companies like Terapad put into place.
If you see something objectionable in the comments, pretty likely I didn't intend for it to be there and I'll remove it quickly.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

The question was, "Is there a way for readers of my blog to be notified via e-mail when I make an update vs. having to check back for updates"
The answer is yes, but still being relatively new to blogging, I'm not sure I fully understand how it works yet.
So, here's the "official" answer....can someone tell me how easy/hard/effective it is?
Hi Chad,
Yes, your readers can subscribe to your RSS feed, and depending on their preferences for RSS, can be notified upon each update. Mail notification isn't implemented as it's often confused as spam.
Any other questions do not hesitate to let me know!
Always happy to help,
short break, back soon
