Hey, thanks for the lifebelt!

From AllPro Dad:

Lifebelts of love

During the Second World War, the USS Astoria was badly damaged by a Japanese vessel and sank. Signalman 3rd Class Elgin Staples was swept overboard and kept afloat by a lifebelt. Staples was rescued by a passing destroyer which was also attacked and sunk. He was back in the ocean, but okay thanks to his great lifebelt.

Staples was picked up once more by the USS President Jackson and once on board, he examined the lifebelt that had saved him. A label revealed that it had been manufactured by the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company and bore a registration number. When he arrived home on leave, Staples told his story to his mother, who happened to work for Firestone, and when they did research on the serial number, found out that she had been the one to assemble the lifebelt! It was one of those amazing acts of providential motherly love.

Have you thanked your wife lately for all the lifebelts of love she makes for your family?

Now that you mention it...no I haven't lately...and there have been a lot!   Thank you wife!

I don't know how she does it...

newbike.jpg Wednesday, 05 March 08 - 06:16 PM (GMT)
By Chad Holtz in My wife...

I was running late this morning...seems to be a recurring trend lately and I'm not sure why.   Part of it I think is because I'm still hobbling from surgery - it seems to take longer to do everything right now.   And, I have physical therapy exercises to do before I leave the house in the a.m. too, so that adds some time as well.

As I was scrambling to get things done this morning and tick tock, tick tock, I needed to leave the house to make my appt, I said to my wife..."can you pack my lunch?   I haven't gotten around to it yet".

She did, of course, because that's just the way she is.   But let me tell you, that woman can make a low fat, low carb, turkey wrap like nobody I've ever met.   I don't know how she does it.  But when you eat it, it's amazing.   She uses the same ingredients that I would pull out of the fridge, but trust me....it doesn't taste the same as if I made it.

She's amazing.   I made my appt on time, I had my lunch, and all is right in my little world....

I'm grateful because....

I did this.   It starts tomorrow (November 1) with my wife drawing the first slip of paper out of the envelope.   She seems excited and it was a good exercise for me, just to remind myself how lucky I am.

No, I'm not telling you what I wrote.   But, I might tell you a little about her reactions throughout the month....maybe, we'll see:

Love in ink

Open up a Word document. Then proceed to write thirty sentences indicating why you’re grateful your wife married you. Some can be funny. Others should be touching. Space these sentences out in a way that can easily be cut with scissors. After cutting, fold these thirty paper gems in half and place inside a decorative basket or box. Present this gift tonight to your wife at the dinner table. She’ll have an entire month where she draws out one slip a day to remind her how much she means to you. See if it won’t make her month!

You've all heard me bragging about my wife on this blog before.   So, for such a wonderful woman, you need to really get a wonderful gift for her for Mother's Day, right?

Here's what I'm thinking:  http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200326632_200326632

All in favor?

Again....

By Chad Holtz in My wife...

My wife is great!   I've said this before, but it never hurts to repeat it (especially when she reads the blog!)

Yesterday she surprised me with the Band of Brothers DVD set.  For no reason.  Nice.   I know, some guys will brag "My wife got me new golf clubs", "My wife doesn't get mad when my poker buddies come over and smoke cigars in the house" (uhm..you might want to reconsider that), "No, my wife doesn't care that I golf 4x a week" (uhm...I bet she does!)....   But...this is Band of Brothers man!!  Forget all that other stuff, this is big time.   Over 10 hours of some of the best movie making and story telling you will ever see - PLUS bonus features!

Now, this is not some political statement about WWII or anything...I just love the movie/mini-series.   I also don't think you should break out of prison, but that doesn't stop me from putting Shawshank Redemption VERY high on my list of all time greatest movies.

I'm excited to watch it, even though I've seen it several times.   This may have to be the first "showing" on the new TV/Surround sound that I'm putting in the basement when we get it finished.  (that's a topic for a whole other post...stay tuned).

I actually was going to tell my wife this would be a good Father's Day gift along with the book "Beyond Band Of Brothers" by Dick Winters.   I guess Father's Day came before Mother's Day this year!   Nice.

So, I say again, my wife is the best!

Sick Child

newbike.jpg Friday, 19 January 07 - 02:50 PM (GMT)
By Chad Holtz in My wife...

I know that some of you read the title and immediately said "Awwww..."   Yeah, you know what it's like.   Our 7 year old is sick today.    The interesting thing about our kids is when they get sick, they really get sick.   They are down in bed/couch for a couple days and don't really move much.   But usually, within 48 hrs, they bounce out of it.   It's really strange, but 95% of the time, that is exactly how the routine goes for either boy.

Now, I've bragged about my wife in this blog before.  Here we go again.  Me...I say, "Wow, they are really sick.  Ok, here's a drink of water, lay down, watch TV until you fall asleep"

Not my wife....she is much better than that.   She's got a little bucket in case they get sick, a cool washcloth on their forehead, set up a special light (not too bright, not too dim), organize a little sick person buffet (crackers, 7-Up, granola bar), tuck them in tight, kiss on the cheek, and check on them every 5 minutes.  It's like a mini-hospital for 48 hrs...

But, that's what Moms are for, and they are very good at it...

If history holds true, he'll be back on his feet by Sunday and ready to go crazy in the snow we are supposed to get.

Good Advice

newbike.jpg Wednesday, 10 January 07 - 04:32 PM (GMT)
By Chad Holtz in My wife...
Good friend of mine read my post from yesterday about my wife and gave me an electronic pat on the back via e-mail.   His comment was "Happy Wife = Happy Life"....I LOVE THAT!   Cracked me up.    I'd like to think that's not why I bragged about her on the site, but I guess it can't hurt.   Love you honey!  :-)

Boundaries

newbike.jpg Tuesday, 09 January 07 - 03:13 PM (GMT)
By Chad Holtz in My wife...

Ok, I know how the internet works and there might be some folks out there shocked that I would put a section about my wife.    Well, it's not what you think.   If you're looking for sordid details and questionable pictures, keep looking...you're not going to find it here.

Actually, you're not even going to find much detail.

Bummed?   Sorry.   But I plan to use this section to brag about my wife.   Yes, I said brag.   Don't like bragging?   Too bad, it's my blog....ha!   Oooh...I love this power.

Seriously, my wife is the greatest.   If I believed that doing good works gets you points toward Heaven, she'd be a platinum member just for putting up with me.

She's my rock, my supporter, my biggest fan, my biggest cheerleader, a GREAT wife, a GREAT friend, and a SUPER mother.

So, there you go, let the bragging commence...  :-)
